This opportunity is open to both volunteers and interns who want to support their community through health education, chronic disease management and prevention, and wellness initiatives. As a Y Health Volunteer or Y Health Intern, you may collaborate with healthcare professionals, local organizations, and community members to develop, implement, and evaluate programs that improve the overall health of diverse populations. This role provides valuable hands-on experience in community health while making a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Whether you are pursuing a career in healthcare, public health, nonprofit work, or simply want to give back to your community, this opportunity will provide you with tools, knowledge, and connections to grow personally and professionally. Interns will need to have a YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina Intern Agreement signed by their School's Internship Coordinator.

Our Healthy Living Volunteer program has something for everyone! Whether you're interested in helping to clean and maintain spaces, assisting with exciting projects, learning about budgeting, or shadowing directors – this is your chance to get hands-on experience while making a positive impact. What You Can Do: Clean & Maintain Healthy Spaces: Help keep environments clean and safe for all. Work on Exciting Projects: Assist with community initiatives and wellness-focused tasks. The YMCA’s Pier-2 Pier Race, in memory of Ryan Young, is an open water ocean swimming event held at beautiful Wrightsville Beach, NC. The swim is approximately 2 miles point-to-point between Johnny Mercer and Crystal Piers with prevailing current. This unique event creates a lot of excitement and enthusiasm in the swimming community and highlights the Y’s commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility. All proceeds from the Pier-2-Pier race benefit the YMCA’s Safety Around Water program, a free water safety and swim lesson course available to the community each spring, summer and fall. Volunteers will be needed to assist with set up, tear down, water safety and other needs. If you are looking to register as a swimmer, please do so at runsignup.com/pier2pier

The William H. Craig Race for Life is a celebratory race for the YMCA's Girls on the Run, Heart & Sole and STRIDE participants. These programs encourage kids and families to pursue a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living while building confidence in their ability to complete a 5K. Come join boys and girls in grades 3-8, as they celebrate their accomplishments of the season! Public runners are welcome as this race provides much-needed scholarships for future Girls on the Run and STRIDE participants. A fun and festive atmosphere, William H. Craig Race for Life 5K and 10K celebrates friends, family and wellness! Volunteers will be needed to assist with set up, tear down, water stations and other needs. This event creates a lot of excitement and enthusiasm within the race community because of its scenic location in beautiful Wrightsville Beach. One of the ways we support our mission is by offering a chaplaincy program to help support the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of our staff, members and program participants. This ministry is for all people regardless of faith, culture, background or beliefs.

Welcome to our Youth Recreational NFL Flag Football League! Join our football family, awesome coaches, great families, amazing players and a dedicated YMCA staff. We are a 100% Volunteer Coaching League and would love to have you join us. As a YMCA Flag Football Coach you get to choose your practice location, day of the week and practice time. We have practice space at Nir Family YMCA, Midtown YMCA, Ogden Park, Long Leaf Athletic Complex (Hoggard HS) and N-Cino Sports Park (Leland side of the bridge). Teams have one weekly practice and then play games on Saturdays. We play games at the Midtown YMCA on Saturdays. Our league includes 10 weeks of practices and 8 league games. Each of our sites have YMCA Athletic Staff on-site for assistance. We provide balls for players at practice, cones, practice bibs and have first aid if needed. So you do not need to purchase any gear or haul it back and forth for your practices, it will be at your practice site each week. We use a communication system that allows you to email/text your entire team and we send out weekly updates that will give the families on your team all the information that they will need. We try and make it as easy as possible to coach for us. After completing one season with us and completing two required online courses covering child safety we offer a 50% coaches discount for the child that you coach for future seasons. If you are interested please complete the follow application and we will reach out to get your practice information, send you the two required courses and an invitation to our next Coaches Meeting.
