As a General Volunteer at YMCA Camp Kirkwood, you will support camp operations in a variety of ways—helping where needed to make camp a safe, welcoming, and fun place for campers, staff, and visitors. Tasks may vary depending on the season, event, or current camp priorities.

Key Responsibilities Assist with camp set-up and break-down (cabins, activity areas, meeting spaces) Help maintain cleanliness of common areas: restrooms, dining halls, trails, cabins Support logistics: moving supplies, organizing storage, handling deliveries Help in landscaping, groundskeeping, trash/recycling pick-up, light maintenance under supervision Assist at events (greeting, ushering, set-up, clean-up) Provide general support to camp staff where extra hands are needed

Training & Orientation: All volunteers will receive instruction on camp safety policies, tool use, emergency procedures, and expectations for conduct. Tool & Equipment Safety: Volunteers must use tools and equipment only after being shown safe operation; wear protective gear as required (gloves, closed-toe shoes, eye protection, etc.). Environmental & Weather Awareness: Work outdoors includes exposure to sun, heat, cold, insects. Volunteers should bring water, sun protection, dress appropriately. Tasks may be modified or suspended in inclement weather (storms, high heat, etc.). Incident Reporting: Any injuries, unsafe conditions, near misses, or concerns must be reported immediately to camp staff or leadership. First aid supplies will be accessible. Safe Physical Activity: Use proper lifting techniques, avoid overexertion; if a task feels unsafe or beyond capability, volunteer should stop and ask for assistance.

Cancellation Policy Once you have confirmed a volunteer shift (via email, sign-up form, or scheduling), please notify YMCA Camp Kirkwood at least 72 hours (3 days) in advance if you must cancel. If cancellation occurs less than 72 hours before your shift, this may cause difficulties in reassigning work or adjusting plans. We ask for prompt communication to allow us to make adjustments. In situations such as illness, emergencies, or extreme weather, please inform us as soon as possible; we understand these situations and will try to accommodate or reschedule.
