Join us in the woods of North Carolina, where summer is all about discovery, friendship, and fun! As a General Volunteer at YMCA Camp Kirkwood, you’ll play a vital role in creating a safe, supportive, and joy-filled environment for our campers. Whether you’re serving meals with a smile, cheering on young adventurers at the ropes course, or capturing camp magic behind the lens, you’ll help build unforgettable experiences for the youth we serve. This is a hands-on, heart-forward role where your enthusiasm, flexibility, and care make all the difference. Volunteers work under the supervision of our trained Camp Counselors and Staff Team. Key Responsibilities: Camper Support: Be a friendly, encouraging presence around camp, supporting positive camper experiences. Help campers navigate activities, mealtimes, and transitions throughout the day. Be a role model by promoting the YMCA’s core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Faith. Activity Area Assistance: Provide support to staff during select activities such as: Fishing & Nature Aquatics Areas (e.g., pool or lakefront safety support) Ropes Course (ground support only; no belaying required) Team Games and Outdoor Adventures Dining Hall Support: Assist with meal setup, food service, cleaning, and resetting between meals. Create a welcoming dining environment for all campers and staff. Specialty & Support Roles (optional, based on interests): Help with Property & Maintenance Team tasks such as light groundskeeping or projects. Support Photography & Media efforts – help capture the moments that matter. Participate in Chapel Services and support faith-based storytelling and songs. Lend a hand wherever extra care is needed!
